2nd Scientific Meeting of BNC-b Students
June 29-30th, 2016

Welcome

The "2nd Scientific Meeting of BNC-b Students" is aimed to present the work done by the PhD students of Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster – Bellaterra (ICMAB, ICN2, IMB-CNM, UAB, ALBA), promoting the networking between them in an academic and scientific environment. After the successful previous editions of "1st Meeting of ICMAB students" in 2011, "1st Meeting of ICMAB-ICN-CIN2 students" in 2013 and "1st Scientific Meeting of BNC-b students" in 2015, currently we incorporate all the framework of the UAB Research Park as well as other universities as UB or UPC. Moreover, this event is also opened to master and undergraduate students, and the scientific community at large.

Furthermore, we will gather different invited speakers to share with us their experience in the entrepreneurship, the skills acquired during the PhD that can be useful outside the academic world, and represents a good chance to meet people who have already followed this path and who can give you good advice. The meeting represents an outstanding opportunity to gather PhD students, share experience and research from different nanoscience areas, and will favor the interaction and collaboration between young researchers.

Topics

The program is organized into different topics, all related to the "nano universe", allowing you to focus on your specialty as well as expand your knowledge in other areas. Attendees will be able to learn from over 50 different researches, including oral sessions, poster presentations, a movie about the life of the PhD students and special lectures related to how to be an entrepreneur in the world of the research: Dr. Senén Barro Ameneiro.

Dr. Senén Barro Ameneiro

Dr. Senén Barro Ameneiro is the live example of a life devoted to science and also a life dedicated to lead groups and networks of entrepreneurship. From his academia profile he has received the award "Premio Extraordinario" after obtaining his PhD degree in physics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), he occupied different direction charges as Director of the Electronic and Computer Science at USC (1993-2002), Dean of USC (2002-2010), and is Director and founder of the "Smart Systems Group". He has collaborated in international (EU), national (Spain) and autonomic projects (Galicia). He has published as first author and in collaboration more than 200 scientific publications on the Computer Science field, in collaboration with other authors he has written 5 books focused in Fuzzy Logic and Neuronal Computing and he has directed 11 PhD theses. From his entrepreneurship leader profile he is the president of the Spanish entrepreneurship network "Red Emprendia", Iberoamerican network of start-ups and enterprise incubators since 2008. He has been president of the TIC group of "Conferencia de Rectores de Universidades de España" (CRUE) (2003-2005). In this talk, widely open for questions and debate, Senén will drive us through the process of how a researcher can become an entrepreneur and how close the world of research is from entrepreneurship.
